Trails Program

Our trails programming is carried out in Musgamagw Dzawada̱’enux̱w territory and in collaboration with the Nawalakw Culture Project. We have been building trails together since 2019.

The Trails Program fulfils an important role - through building trails, it builds access to important places and brings local Indigenous youth onto the land in an immersive and focused way. The program helps to create connection to place and a deeper understanding of the youths’ roles and responsibilities as stewards of their lands and waters.

Youth participate in all aspects of trail building and gain skills in hand tool and power tool use, as well as the layout, construction and maintenance of sustainable low impact trails and trail features.

Leadership, organisation, and teamwork are a focus throughout the program. Each participant leaves the program more confident in their abilities and strengths, and participants consistently show respect for each other, and for the environment around them.
