Paddle Programming

Sea to Cedar has supported community focused and Indigenous led paddle programming since 2017.

Paddle programming supports youth to develop their skills and confidence while travelling in the lands and waters of their traditional territories. Through canoe expeditions, participants learn about the marine environment  (e.g. navigation, wind/waves, rescue, weather, tides, chart/compass and tarps/knots) under the supervision of Paddle Canada instructors and Indigenous instructors from their local communities. Participants also learn about leadership skills, safety, and risk management.

Our main paddling programming focus has been in Musgamagw Dzawada̱’enux̱w territory where we ran youth paddle programs from 2017- 2022.  Learn More —>

We have now transitioned the Youth Leadership Paddle Program to Akala Society - a land and water-based non-profit operated by a group of Musgamagw Dzawada̱’enux̱w people. We worked closely together to transition the program and know Akala Society is building the program into something even better!

We have also provided coordination and expertise support to other Nations to help them to develop paddle programs in their territories. We are always looking to support building paddle programming in new places - so please get in touch if you are interested in bringing paddle programming to your community.
